Sonrisas para Zimbabwe

Imagine having a root canal performed in 90 degree heat in the Zimbabwean bush, on a dirt floor.

This year marks the fourth annual Sonrisas para Zimbabwe mobile dental clinic. Another record was broken! Many thanks to the Spanish and Italian team of dentists, and the Zimbabwean crew. One thousand, nine hundred seventy-five patients were seen, each with numerous procedures.  The increase was due to the expansion of the districts of Tsholotsho and Hwange.  Please see below for some highlights from our 2014 mission.

Jairos Jiri at Mukuvisi Woodlands

On November 18th, we embarked on quite the adventure with 185 children and 70 caretakers from the Jairos Jiri Association to a game reserve in Harare, Zimbabwe.  Children with disabilities are faced with daily challenges in the harsh environment of Zimbabwe and as part of our initiative we wanted to give them a day off from life's obstacles and provide them with a fun day in the park.  For more information on the Jairos Jiri Association, please check out http://www.jairosjiriassoc.com.

Thanks to our friends at Meikles Mega Market, 500 bananas, sweet rolls, and meat pies (a real treat in Zimbabwe) were donated for breakfast and lunch.
